The Princess Theatre was built in 1888, making it Brisbane's oldest colonial venue. One hundred thirty-three years later, the hierarchical nature upon which it was built was broken by a culture that explores unity.
Over the course of 2022, the Princess evolved into a space that began to acknowledge Brisbane’s entire community, breaking down the social order that the building was intended to uphold.
This series encourages the freedom to look directly at the present, uninfluenced by concepts embedded in the past. Employing the relaunch of The Princess as an opportunity to celebrate the vast community in Brisbane that values identity as a vital aspect of unity. Punctuated by intense light, her transformation symbolises the possibility of making Brisbane a city where people hold space for each other.
