This project follows a group of teenagers in the heart of Outback Australia, as they navigate their lives pulled between the expectations of contemporary Australian society and their own Aboriginal culture and knowledge. The Boys’ way of being resonates with a deep-seated awareness of kinship and an intrinsic connection to ALL, a relationship that isn’t taught within the confines of a classroom or articulated in words but instead felt innately.
In The Boys, I attempt to capture moments that unveil these invisible threads binding us all. The series reveals not only the profound unity intrinsic to The Boys perspective, but also the tensions emanating from Western capitalist ideals which focus on possession, subjection and a disconnection from the universal life force.
This project is a work in progress. After working and living together for a number of years we continue to explore and make this work.
